Freebie Alert/ Review: Overkill

Overkill surprised me all of a sudden with it's recent release and price. The game is free and I would argue that it is a valuable game. It is a basic shooter with four levels and 30 challenges on each level. There are tons of upgrades for each weapon and alternate fire modes.

The weapons are all well illustrated and the enemy targets are interesting, challenging and constant. One trouble I found was the reload time on each weapon seemed slow. Sometimes this forces you to shoot with exact precision and retry levels constantly.

I highly recommend this game. It is challenging, rewarding and free! Grab it now and have a blast collecting and upgrading all the weapons.

Games to look forward to

Although certain games I was looking forward to are taking their sweet time I still was able to find a handful of titles to keep anyone occupied for the next couple of months. These titles do not have official release dates but the publishers have claimed that they're coming out soon.

WW2 Panzer Tank: Multiplayer online game supported by Game Center. The game puts you into a one-on-one duel vs another online player.

Second on my list is Vegas Tower. Now if you've ever played Yoot Tower this game looks right up your alley. The game is apparently free (maybe an In-App-Purchase). You control the tower and it's visitors.

Next in line is: Great Little War Game. This title will probably be out in the next couple of weeks. It is a turned based action game with a lot of tactile precision. The game's cute graphics are very interesting and the game play looks like a blast.

Finally one title everyone seems to be into is Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery. It is a unique action adventure game with turn based battles. The game has a pixelated look to it and apparently is set to stun the IOS community.

Ultra Violet Dawn HD: review

UV Dawn is a dual stick shooter that aspires to be much more than something simple like Minigore. Ultra Violet Dawn puts you in charge of a spaceship in a foreign galaxy. You customize your ship, your weapons, your missions, destinations and products to transport.

Choosing weapons is made easy

There are plenty of upgrades and they all cost quite a bit. Running cargo and attempting missions will earn you money but I found that simply killing enemy ships earned me enough money. One major problem lies with the controls and AI. The opposing spacecraft are annoying to battle early on and there is a lot of chasing in circles. Once you purchase missiles battles become much easier.

The galaxy is vast but unfortunately all kind of looks the same. There wasn't one map that stood out as a different part of space. This game can be a long game or a short one. There isn't an actual plot line to follow. At the price of $3.99 this game clearly needs an update. Overall it is a mediocre game with huge potential to be much better.

Real Racing 2 Hd: review

Opening cinematic from Real Racing 2 HD

After waiting a couple of extra months for Real Racing 2 HD it's finally here! The sequel from Firemint's premiere series hit the App Store a week ago. The game stays true to actual car physics and maintains it's name by making the experience feel as true to actual racing in a portable device. The graphics are stunning and one main focus I can see is the lighting. The game allows you to step into the shoes of the driver so the camera is first person.

The car selection is fairly vast and include Ford, BMW, Volkswagon, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Lotus, McLaren, Nissan and Volvo. For each company there are several models to chose from and depending on the requirements for the race you want to enter you may have to purchase numerous cars.

There is a ton a value in this game including online communities to race in and tons of trophies and maps to unlock. The game is currently priced at $9.99 and I doubt it will go down anytime soon. If you can deal with the steep price then by all means buy this one.

Featured sale of the day

I don't know how long this will be on sale for but it is well worth your money. Plants vs Zombies HD is currently priced at $1.99 in North America. It usually sells for $6.99 so I strongly suggest you download this while you can. Check out the game play below:

Where is my HD version?

Every month there are a slew of IOS titles that come out that are exclusive for the Iphone/Ipod Touch. I know that I'm not the only one looking for theses titles to be released either universally or in HD. Here is a list of titles I cannot wait for:

1. The most anticipated release: Rainbow Six: Vanguard currently priced at $6.99.

IOS screenshot, imagine the HD treatment

Fluent controls and interesting environments
2. NBA JAM: classic NBA action with tons of slam dunks and big head mode! (rumoured to be released late March, early April) currently $4.99

3. Gameloft's Starfront: Collision, of course this is a rip-off Starcraft but whatever it looks awesome. currently In-App purchase

If you guys/girls out there know of any solid release dates for the following or other games to look forward please comment on this blog post.

Battleheart: Universal IOS Game

Customize your character
Battleheart is a very original Flash based game. The game combines elements of a basic rpg, teamwork and action. The game allows you to chose a team that will carry you through the starting levels. As the game continues you can trade characters for others and continue to upgrade your team with experience points. As you can see each character in your team can be upgraded through the main menu. Weapons, armor and items all can be customized.

Once your team enters a battle each character has separate abilities that you will pick up soon. In my opinion it is impossible to progress in the game without a healer. This allows the HP of your characters to recharge after being attacked by incoming characters. To control your team you must click once on the character then click again to where you would like them to move or who to attack.  One thing that needs to be mentioned is that this game is similar to a "Horde mode", where the level never changes unless you've defeated the final wave in each round.

The following screen shots show you the special abilities each character has and how keeping track of each individual character is key to surviving.

I strongly suggest this title for any RPG fan. The game play is easy to jump into and a ton of fun for at least the first 14-20 hours. Once you are leveled up completely you may be a bit bored. The price currently is $2.99 so grab it while it's hot.
