Resident Evil Mercenaries VS: IOS review

For the first time I'm going to delve into an IOS game that is not universal and made solely for the Ipod Touch, Iphone and compatible with the Ipad. I know that this blog is supposed to be solely about Ipad gaming but honestly I am the biggest fan of Resident Evil, especially the mercenaries mode that comes with Resident Evil 5. I'm anticipating this title to eventually hit the Ipad but honestly Capcom takes their sweet time transferring their games over to HD quality. Resident Evil Mercenaries VS is an online game that features free for all combat with four characters or two vs. two combat. There are only three arenas to choose from, including "creative" titles like fortress, castle and docks. There are also only three characters to choose from, including Wesker, Jill and Chris. Surprisingly Chris seems to be the worst player to choose from while Jill and Wesker have superior weaponry. The levels aren't huge, they are big enough to get some distance. The one thing that just kind of bugs me is that at the end of May Capcom is going to release Resident Evil Mercenaries for the 3DS. I can tell from videos and screenshots that Capcom has put a lot more effort into the 3DS and I understand that there is a difference in graphics and price point. Currently Resident Evil Mercenaries VS. is priced at only $2.99 and is apparently on sale while the 3DS version will most likely be around $30 to $40 bucks.
Game play:
First off this game suffers from the same control scheme the previous Resident Evil 4 IOS title. You must always stop, pivot and take your time shooting through the guided laser sight. It will take some time to adjust to the controls considering there are much better ways to handle the layout of buttons. One thing I liked is that in your top corner they show you your current weapon and if you press that button and drag your finger to your secondary weapon you can easily select the next weapon while on the go. I honestly hate selecting the items menu while in action because it takes forever to equip something to your character. I doubt these issues will ever be addressed, Capcom seems to be satisfied with their wacky buttons and yet they still don't want players to be able to walk and shoot at the same time.

If you can get past these downfalls then this game can provide fun, I think you have to be a fan of Resident Evil to buy this one. Capcom promises additional content but that may require an IAP. For the time being there is already a community of players and if you want you can play against AI enemies.

Angry Birds Rio: review

I'm not the biggest fan of Angry Birds, believe it or not I find the simplicity, art style and game-play a bit boring. I also believe that the original Angry Birds HD is overpriced at $4.99. Recently the same publishers put out Angry Birds Rio HD for $2.99. The game has over 50 levels and a new art style related to an upcoming television show or movie related to Angry Birds. Somehow this top selling game has become a franchise. Either way, back to the game... Angry Birds Rio has a very cool art style that is more cartoon than the previous entries in the series. The game still has multiple birds to launch at targets such as the classic red bird, the small bird that divides into three separate birds before impact and the yellow bird that increases speed before impact. On every level you get a rating out of three stars depending on the amount of birds remaining and the amount of boxes you destroy. For the price of $2.99 you receive quite a bit of content and although I am in the minority of people you don't flock to this title I still respect the game play and simplicity of the idea. Overall I recommend this title but if it goes on sale or if there is a new update I highly recommend Angry Birds Rio HD.

Death Rally: update

Death Rally was recently released two weeks ago and although the title was a ton of fun, it lacked enough substance for me to continuously go back to it. With the new update I was hoping for some quality content added to the experience. The developers added two new weapons and a new car. The biggest problem with the new vehicle is that it is less advanced than the Deliverator, which is the top notch car you can unlock. So if you already have unlocked all the vehicles it is pointless to go back and use the new car. The weapons are pretty decent, one is a laser sight that accurately guides your missiles and the other is called the striker. The striker fires off a series of guided missiles towards your target. With these updates comes a temporary price drop of 2 dollars, bringing the title from $4.99 to only $2.99. The update to the game is three new modes of racing, one called adversary, all nitro and the last is marathon. Overall I appreciate the developer's effort to add new content but honestly the game needs a few new courses and maybe an online mode. I know this is a lot to ask for but there are only four courses currently and over time they get repetitive.

Preview: Apache Sim HD

So considering the lull in new titles being released I was still able to find a video of a great Helicopter Sim game. The video makes the game look likes a blast and includes multiple levels, game-play styles and helicopters. Check out this video, the game will be released in May.

Perfect Cell: review

So inside a secret laboratory in a submarine a cell is developed that is unlike any other. This cell is so super powered that it cannot escape and reach the normal population. As the player you take control of this cell and it's super powers. Essential Perfect Cell is a puzzle game mixed with light action. By swiping or double clicking you can attack humans and move at a super fast speed. The controls are simple and intuitive, meant for the Ipad. The game is truly original and fairly simple to get into. As the game progresses the levels and enemies get more complex to defeat. At a rebate price of only 1 dollar I highly recommend this game. For a limited time try to pick up this title before it goes back up in price. The one problem I found with the game was that I felt weird attacking people and I couldn't side with this perfect cell. I felt like I was a bad guy and I really didn't want to escape this underwater prison. The graphics are decent and it plays like a side-scrolling puzzler. So for the time being pick this budget title up but remember at best this is a one time play through.

Price Drop: Perfect Cell now at a perfect Price

Last year Perfect Cell was released at a fair price of $5.99 considering the content and originality of the game. The premise of Perfect Cell is that you are a man made creation that needs to escape from a facility and destroy soldiers in the way while avoiding traps. The game is now priced at only 1 dollar for either the Ipad or Iphone. The game is very fluent and well worth a dollar at this point. I doubt the sale will last long so grab it while you still have the chance.

Death Rally: review

I'm a big fan of cars and guns and top down racing so Death Rally seemed like a no-brainer to me. To put it into perspective Death Rally is essentially Reckless Racing mixed with the movie Death Race. There is a weak plot-line that involves the police taking you down in the first couple of seconds and hiring you to infiltrate a dangerous game and take down an evil crime boss through illegal races. The opening sequences plays out as a graphic novel and then jumps straight into the racing action. Each car is customizable to a certain degree and everything from handling to your weapon can be upgraded. The racing is tough and I didn't feel like it responded as well as Reckless Racing. This is where the weapons come into play, without them the game looses half of it's appeal. Honestly it may take a few tries before you win your first race and a few upgrades before you feel like you're in the game. It's pretty easy to jump in and out of the races so if you end up getting frustrated it's easy to take a break. Death Rally has a beautiful look to it and is truly competitive, the action is fun and fairly explosive at times. for the price of $4.99 there is enough content to warrant the price. My last request is that the publishers add new content such as cars and tracks as time goes on.
